Write letters to banks and companies
SecureKeep can fill in a letter for each bank, insurer and company in a vault, so telling them about a death takes an afternoon instead of drafting each one.
-
Open the letters
In Settings, open Share Vault Access and tap Write letters to banks and companies, under For your executor. If a vault was handed to you, it's also on the Start here page.
-
Choose the country and fill in the details once
Pick United States, United Kingdom or India. Then type the name of the person who died, the date of death, and your own name, address and phone or email. They go into every letter, stay on this screen while you work, and are never saved.
-
Pick an organisation
Each bank, insurer, pension and subscription in the vault is listed with the kind of letter it gets. Anything under Other says Choose kind: open it and pick the kind of organisation. To write to a company that isn't in the vault, tap Write to another organisation.
-
Check the letter
The preview shows the letter as it will print. Anything still empty is highlighted and listed under Still to add. Fill it in here, or leave it: it prints as a blank line you can write in by hand. If the owner added an account reference to the password, it's already filled in.
-
Make the PDF and send it
Tap Make PDF, read the warning, then print or share the file. SecureKeep deletes its own copy as soon as you're done. To make every letter at once, go back and tap All letters as one PDF.
-
Tell the credit bureaus
Below the list, each credit bureau's address is shown with a letter asking it to mark the file as deceased. Write the date of birth and last address into the blanks by hand.
-
If you're the owner, add account references now
Open a password, tap For your executor and add the account's last 4 digits. SecureKeep won't save the password or a full card number there.
Good to know
- General guidance, not legal advice. Check with the organisation or a lawyer.
- This file won't be encrypted. Anyone who gets it can read it.
If it doesn't work
- The list is empty
- Only passwords under Banking, Insurance, Government and Other are listed, plus subscriptions. Tap Write to another organisation to write to anyone else.
- An item says Choose kind
- It's filed under Other. Open it and pick what kind of organisation it is.
- The account reference is blank
- The owner didn't add one. Type it on the letter screen, or leave it blank and write it in by hand.
- My country isn't there
- Letters are written for the United States, the United Kingdom and India. Pick the closest one and check the wording before you send it.
- TransUnion isn't listed for the UK
- We couldn't find a way for families to report a death to TransUnion in the UK yet. Check its website. In the US, all three bureaus are listed, and the one you write to tells the other two.
