Get ready for a hospital stay
Collect medications, what helps, and where the power of attorney is kept, then print one page to take with you.
-
Start a vault for them, if it's for someone else
When you create a vault, the first question is Whose vault is this? Choose Someone I look after. SecureKeep then opens their emergency card with the hospital sections ready.
Keeping a vault for yourself? Skip this step and open your Emergency Card from the home screen. A second vault needs the one-time Pro unlock.
-
Add their medications
On the Emergency Card, tap the pencil to edit, then open Medication list and tap Add medication. For each one, enter the name, the dose and when they take it. Add a note if the nurse should know something, such as "with food".
Anything you typed before in the old medications box is still there, now called Other notes about medications.
-
Fill in This is me
Open This is me. Write what they like to be called, how they communicate, what helps, what upsets them, their routines and how they get around. Short phrases are fine.
-
Say where the power of attorney is kept
Open Power of attorney and directives. Fill in who holds power of attorney, where the papers are kept, the healthcare proxy's name and phone, and where the advance directive is kept. Tap Update Emergency Card to save.
-
File the documents themselves
In Documents, add each paper and pick the Power of attorney or Advance directive category. The printed page lists these by name only. It never includes what's inside them.
-
Print or share the hospital-stay page
On the Emergency Card, tap Print or share for a hospital stay. You'll find the same button in Settings > Share Vault Access, next to the Recovery Kit.
SecureKeep warns you that the file isn't encrypted before it makes anything. Print it, or share it with the person who needs it. SecureKeep deletes its own copy of the file afterwards.
Good to know
- This file won't be encrypted. Anyone who gets it can read it.
If it doesn't work
- Print or share for a hospital stay says to set up the emergency card first
- The page is made from the emergency card. Add the card, then try again.
- A document I added isn't listed on the page
- Only documents filed under the Power of attorney or Advance directive category appear, by name. Open the document, change its category and save.
- A power of attorney document shows as Other
- A backup restored onto a phone that hasn't updated SecureKeep shows the new categories as Other. Update the app and it shows correctly.
